Today, Kent Displays is recognized as a global leader in research, development and manufacturing of LCDs for unique, sustainable applications. Reflex plastic LCDs are manufactured from rolls of plastic on a state-of-the-art production line in Kent, Ohio. The line is the first of its kind in the world.
The company's Reflex™ LCD displays are: rugged, thin, and flexible; have superior optical characteristics; and require no power for image retention. Reflex plastic LCDs are targeted at four emerging e-paper applications: Color eReaders, eCards/Smartcards, Electronic Skins, and Electronic Writing Tablets. In 2010, Kent Display was the recipient of a NorTech Innovation Award for its Reflex LCD Electronic Skins, which have the capability to change color on command to fit your mood, need or preference.
Kent Displays first consumer product using flexible electronics technology, the Boogie Board™, is an electronic writing tablet that only uses power when clearing an image. The Boogie Board was introduced in early 2010 and soon became a commercial success. The Boogie Board is available through retail stores such as Brookstone™ and Amazon™ as well as European and Asian outlets. Boogie Boards are now available in six colors worldwide. The company is already working on new versions of the product which can save images, and upload what has been sketched or written to a computer or other storage device.
