Electronics and IT are both critical technologies that enable practitioners in other fields to achieve innovative, market-making breakthroughs.

As part of our efforts to foster more innovation in the region, NorTech will be focused intently on improving our region’s capabilities in these critical areas. As enabling technologies, electronics and IT can provide sturdy bridges between technology sectors that will facilitate greater innovation in the region. We are actively supporting the work being led by Case, Cleveland State University, Kent State, and the University of Akron to grow and improve the region’s EECS offerings, add to faculty levels, attract eminent scholars, and significantly increase the amount of research funding from all sources.

NorTech recognizes that the electronics industry is a major driver of the Northeast Ohio economy, and is a key enabling and intersecting technology for nanotechnology, fuel cells, biosciences and polymers. For this reason, NorTech has made the development of electronics one of its key focus areas. NorTech’s efforts, done under the banner of the Northeast Ohio Electronics Cluster, are focused on driving electronics industry cohesiveness and collaboration.
