Through our portfolio of strategic experiments/pilot projects we are able to secure funding from public and private sources for early-stage, technology-based projects that have potential to leverage additional dollars and resources. We then work with the technology leadership to ensure projects get the attention and support they deserve.

Entrepreneurial Signature Program
NorTech is currently launching the region’s Entrepreneurial Signature Program with seven service providers and four pre seed investment funds, all collaborating to take entrepreneurial activity to a new level in the region with the biggest state investment ever in technology-based entrepreneurship
Third Frontier Project
Since 2002 more than $300M has been invested in Northeast Ohio’s technology, entrepreneurship and innovation infrastructure with $153M of that invested in 2006. NorTech’s current efforts are focused on ensuring continued funding to support Northeast Ohio’s technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation priorities.

Northeast Ohio Electronics Cluster
Wright Center for Sensor Systems Engineering; Northeast Ohio Electronics Cluster—convening the industry; Driving region’s electrical engineering and computer science resources to attract research funding and faculty
Technology Leaders Initiative
NorTech, in cooperation with the Fund for Our Economic Future and Tech Leaders from 18 Third Frontier technology Wright Centers, Wright Projects, and Biomedical Research Centers in Northeast Ohio, work together to develop critical mass and create economy sustaining technology industries.
NASA Glenn Research Center Support
NorTech, working in cooperation with the Greater Cleveland Partnership, government, business and community leaders to increase funding, utilize Glenn’s unique strengths and facilities, and connect the center to industry to stimulate more economic activity in the region.
FlexMatters
An initiative designed to build on the liquid crystal strengths based at Kent State University, and polymer strengths at the University of Akron to develop and manufacture flexible liquid crystal displays/devices in Northeast Ohio.
 | Northeast Ohio Regional Health Information Organization NEO RHIO NorTech is working in partnership with OneCommunity, regional hospitals, and healthcare providers to launch a Northeast Ohio Regional Health Information Organization NEO RHIO to increase and improve the use of health information technology. The proposed system of information sharing would improve healthcare and health outcomes for patients throughout the region. |
 | Talent Development and Recruitment NorTech, BioEnterprise, NEOSA, and JumpStart launched www.neotechjobs.com, a Northeast Ohio High Tech jobs portal, to promote available technology jobs in the region. Currently, 5,300 high tech jobs available in Northeast Ohio. Plans to market this in and outside the region are underway with Cleveland , NOCHE and other partners. |
Information and Communication Technology ICT Talent Analysis and Roadmap
In partnership with NEOSA and Northeast Ohio Academic Researchers, are looking at the supply and demand for Information and Communications Technology workers and developing a road map to align supply and growing demand.

Manufacturing Innovation Initiative
Working with the Manufacturing Growth Advocacy Network MAGNET to develop an Innovation Academy, Resource Link website, and Commercialization initiative to bolster Northeast Ohio’s manufacturing community.
Advanced Energy Initiative
NorTech is working with the Cleveland Foundation, Entrepreneurs for Sustainability, Sustainable Cleveland, and the Green Building Coalition to develop a regional advanced energy strategy.
Early Stage and Venture Capital Advisory Task Forces
Analysis and recommendations published in October 2005 --Northeast Ohio’s capital needs and investment opportunities. A follow up report, entitled “The Greater Cleveland Venture Capital Report,” was issued in February 2007 to reveal amount of VC investments in region. This report will continue to be updated on an annual basis.
